Agate is a semi-precious stone that is traditionally used to burnish water gilded gold leaf as well as in jewelry making techniques such as Keum-Boo and metal clay sculpture. Guild Gold Agate Burnishers are available in a variety of unique shapes and sizes. Agate burnishers are wonderful for polishing the tight corners of gilded frames or the elaborate details of gold-leafed calligraphy. Jewelry makers find this to be a safer tool to tighten and smooth metal bezels around stones. Guild Gold Agate Burnishers can also be used for bookbinding. Each Agate stone is mounted to a matte steel ferrule and strong wooden handle. Key Features: * Genuine Agate stone * Non-scratching surface * Matte steel ferrule * Comfortable wooden handle * Available in 5 unique shapes and sizes Perfect For: * Water gilded gold leaf burnishing * Polishing the tight corners of gilded frames * Jewelry making techniques * Adding a final polish to bezels * Creating a mirror-like finish * Bookbinding processes * Calligraphy, icon paintings, mixed-media To use the burnisher, apply moderate pressure and move the tool with small, slow, consistent strokes. The right amount of pressure is developed with practice. Too much pressure will rub off the leaf. It is important to keep the stone clean. The smallest of scratches on the stone can damage the gold leaf as it is burnished. The oil from your fingers can also cause build up on the Agate stone. Before each use, breathe on the stone and buff with a soft cloth like silk or microfiber. Keum-Boo (attached gold) is an ancient Korean jewelry technique. This method uses heat to fuse gold leaf to sterling silver or other metals. Agate burnishers are used to buff and brighten the resulting jewelry pieces. See More
